John A. Wardrop

John Wardrop is an Environmental Scientist with qualifications in marine, coastal and terrestrial ecology, and environmental assessment and management.


Areas of expertise include emergency response planning, training, development of emergency and oil spill response management systems and team development, monitoring and evaluation of oil-impacted shorelines and communities, and development of cleanup and restoration strategies. He also has experience in public and government consultation.


John has been involved in the response to a number of oil spills and has produced detailed emergency response plans, post-spill monitoring plans, and environmental management and remediation. These have encompassed onshore, offshore, and coastal facilities and have been undertaken for industry, state, and national governments. He has extensive experience in dealing with media and government agencies both within Australia and overseas.


He was the Oil Spill and Emergency Response Manager for the Sakhalin II Project (Sakhalin Energy Investment Company, SEIC) between 2001 and 2007 and was responsible for developing that company’s E & OSR system and team and for procuring equipment. He is also responsible for consultation with Russian Federal and Oblast administrations, Japanese authorities, NGOs (Japan, Russia and UK), and the IUCN (Geneva) and international banks (e.g. EBRD).


John Wardrop has postgraduate qualifications in education and extensive teaching experience, and has developed and presented a range of oil spill response and environment-related training courses.
